What is this course

Stronger at Home is a mini-course. The course gives you some beginner level tools to begin confronting the anxiety in your own life. These beginner’s tools are simple but not easy.

Imagine growing a garden. The plants don’t grow by magic. You have to work with them by feeding them, watering them, and protecting them from the harsher elements. As with stronger plants, so it is with becoming stronger at home. The mini-course sets you on the right path. At the end, I will link to some resources to help you go further than this course.

Why am I creating this course

I want this course to serve people during the COVID crisis. I want people to feel like there is someone out there willing to give them the tools that aren’t party line BS. People need to be able to confront themselves and be better at life because of it.

How does non-anxious presence fit into faithful fatherhood? Our children feel our anxiety. If we aren’t willing to confront it, then they are afflicted by it. Fatherhood is about you, the father, and making you better.

What do you receive from taking Stronger at Home

You receive lifetime access to the stronger at home course which includes:

  1. The course on becoming stronger at home by creating a non-anxious presence.
  2. A bonus section of COVID-19 resources compiled by me.
  3. Other updates made over time. (free of charge)

In the course, you receive a set of skills to empathize with your and other people’s pain, panic, and guilt. After learning how to connect with them, you will have the ability to move them or yourself forward. I teach you a method to create a presence; it is not a quick fix, but something you and the people around you will notice over time.

How does this course work

This course will be distributed through the Teachable platform which allows for access across a variety of devices and screen sizes.

Inside the will have a short video to open up the concept, give you the tool, and a method demonstrating how I use it in my life. Then I will have a worksheet or challenge to get you started. You will have lifetime access to the course and any updates added into it, along with bonus content.

Who should take Stronger at Home

Someone who:

  1. wants more tools to handle their anxiety.
  2. has noticed that their frustration with themselves or other situations have started to affect their family life.
  3. is feeling the pressure of their current crisis and needs to learn a healthy release.

Steve Cuss once noted that the most anxious person is the most influential person in the room. The screaming toddler indeed gets the attention. And sometimes, the most anxious person in the room is the parent. Anxiety does not equal good decision making. If you want to confront the anxious person with empathy to diffuse a situation, then this mini-course will give you some tools to lead.

This course is about confrontation. You confront yourself first and then others. Making yourself stronger allows you to have a better presence at home.

Who shouldn’t take Stronger at Home

Someone who already receives full-time psychiatric care should not take this course. The course is not in place of a licensed professional therapist.

Someone who thinks other people are the problem before assessing themselves and their motivations

Someone who hopes this will fix themselves or their spouse or coworker over-night. A non-anxious presence is a presence, not an action list or a to-do item thing. It is something you nurture in yourself, which spreads to others over time. – Not a quick fix

Price

I realize this course is coming out during the COVID-19 pandemic. I choose $20 because that was the highest I was willing to charge for a mini-course. It was also the lowest price from my research to incentivize people to complete the course. However, you may not be able to afford this content, and that’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to take this course right now. So, instead of just offering it for free, I am giving out unlimited coupon codes. During check-out, apply the code 100-OFF, and you will pay nothing for the mini-course.

If you do decide that you can afford the $20, then thank you because it goes directly into funding a full course that I will launch when it’s ready. If you did support me, but felt you didn’t receive the full value of your $20, then I offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Email me, and I will be happy to return your funds. My plan is not to get rich off of a mini-course. It is to help as many people as I can during these anxious times. If I receive funding for my next course, all the better.

You mentioned “non-anxious presence” a few times. What is it?

The term a non-anxious presence was first coined by Edwin Friedman, a rabbi and family therapist based in New York City from the 1950s-1990s. As Friedman worked with family after family during the Cold War and economic downturns of the previous century, he became frustrated with his lack of progress with some families. That is when he started focusing his efforts during family therapy on the non-anxious member of the family.

He noticed one family member seemed to naturally cope better with the stress and anxiety going on around them. The children surprised Friedman when they showed greater potential to be the non-anxious presence than their parents. So, Friedman gave the non-anxious family member the tools to spread their lack of anxiety throughout the family structure, effectively calming the environment and allowing a resolution to come forth. As families made real progress, coming to him fewer and fewer times, he realized that this non-anxious presence was effective in allowing the family to become stronger at home.
