My Son’s Best Day

My Son’s Best Day

Faithful Fatherhood, Fun Dad Stories
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Just to clarify, my son can’t write, but this is a story about one of the best days he has had in a while. This is not to let you know that we are perfect parents because part of the reason this was such a great day is that it is rare. Also, he is two and a half, and I tried to capture that with the grammatical errors and the occasional dad note.

I woke up like I always do. “MOMMY! Is anyone there!” Then she came in snuggled me and we woke up and played until mom reminded me to go potty.

That Daddy tried to race me there, but I always win. He is such a silly goose. We ate our usual cheerios and bananas and watched some TV. Superwings I think, but it could’ve been Blippi. I don’t remember.

Daddy got downstairs and we packed up to go to the mall which made me sad because mommy never comes with me and daddy to the mall and we were having such a fun day. Daddy continued loading the car and then mommy took me out to the car and that’s when I knew this day was going to be awesome!

Mommy sat in the car with us. Shocked, I asked her “what are you doing here?” She told me she was coming with us! When we got to the mall, Daddy and mommy got out and unpacked and then loaded me up. Normally, I want to eat some peanuts (dad note: trail mix), but today I just wanted to play so bad.

I wanted to make sure that mommy and daddy were going to stick with me. So, I let one push my stroller and I made sure to hold the other’s hand. We went straight to the mall playground and had a blast. I got to hang out with some kids for a little bit. Then, I played with daddy. We played some chase and tickle-monster. Then we played paw patrol. Then we played jetpack. Jetpack is my favorite and daddy added a new thing. We had to fix daddy and Ezra every time we crash. It was awesome. Then we got mommy involved.

We played squirt gun the bad guy and mommy protect me. The bad guy is daddy and he tries to get me away from mommy. Mommy has a shield around her and daddy can’t get me while mommy holds me which is fun for a little bit and then I like to let him get me again. I escape from daddy by squirting him with water. (Dad note: it is entirely pretend water. There is no squirt gun or anything).

After a while I got a little tired, so mommy and daddy decided to go get lunch. We had some awesome chicken and fruit and French fries. It was deeeelicious. Then we went home in the van and I took a nice long nap. Playing with mommy aaaand daddy is exhausting. I think I wore them out good because it looked like daddy had been napping when I woke up. We went downstairs and there was mommy ready snuggle on the couch and watch some Superwings.

We watched some TV while daddy cooked dinner. We had rice and chicken and zucchini and peppers. Zucchini and peppers are my favorite (Dad note: I know it’s weird but it’s true). Then we played some more and watched some Magic School Bus with the snuggle mixed in just to make sure they knew I loved them.

Then daddy and I took a shower and he held me the whooole time. It was great. We sang danced and yelled while we watched the soap spill off daddy. He is really dirty and needs a lot of soap. Then mommy did bed time with me. I love telling mommy all about my day at bed time. We read books too. Sometimes the dancing carries over. (Dad note: when he gets going, picture naked two-year-old screaming songs – like heavy metal screaming. It is both disastrous to our ear drums and warming to our hearts.) Then I went to bed. The best day ever both a mommy and daddy day. We should do that more often.

The best day from my son. A day where both my wife and I were actually present with him. What are your kids best days? I hope they include playing, singing, and napping.
