The Prayer You Need to Pray

For those used to the long form posts. Don’t worry they will come back next week. After some prayer, research and reflection, I wanted to try something new out this week.

The prayer that scares you the most is the one you need to pray the most. Something I have learned is that there are prayers we are afraid to pray because they might come true. God might actually make our congregations more diverse if we pray for it. God might actually give us more opportunities to serve if we pray for it. We might actually have to grow in the fruits of the spirit if we pray for it.

For me, I am scared to pray for success and becoming a better writer and marketer. If success and deeper and better writing are what I am most scared of then that’s what I need to pray for. I have to pray for it in humility and pray new prayers every day.

What life is that? One that grows in grace. It was once said that the early church fathers used more grace in their lifetimes than we have used since. The grace they used was not because they continually sinned, but because they needed energy, grace energy. They could not earn or create grace energy themselves, but the energy that was given freely and grown into over time.

How do you feel? What do you think? Are you ever afraid to pray certain prayers? Let me know in the comments or by email.
